The Tiny Apple 🍎

Personal and local NYC tips - the ones that don't make it to Google - along with the heartfelt musings of a 30-something-year-old expat-turned-Yorker. Explore a more intimate personal side of New York City life. By Laura Peruchi

"The Tiny Apple" is the name I created to represent everything I share here: my perspective on New York City— a smaller, more intimate version of the "Big Apple." A personal side of New York City life - without worrying about SEO or ranking on Google. And also because I'm a tiny human being - 5.1, to be precise :)

Who is Laura?

Brazilian born, New Yorker by choice. I'm a journalist that loves to share her passions with the world. I started my first blog in 2010 and I've never stopped since then! I'm excited to use this space to share my passions and tips with you. Among all the social platforms, blogging has always been my favorite - but Google and SEO took all the spontaneity of the process. I hope to rescue some of that on this channel!

  • I'm originally from a small town of 7000 people - but I've always been fascinated by big cities. I love the endless possibilities that NYC offers.

  • Besides English and Portuguese (my mother tongue), I also speak Spanish and I'm taking French classes.

  • I love exploring the city - especially to eat.

  • Beauty, fashion, shopping hacks and cooking are among my passions.

  • I love to move my body.

  • I think brunch food is overrated.

  • I have a rescue dog named Dalbit.

  • I love writing.

  • I've been living in NYC since 2014. Never dreamed about living in the US - until I visited the Big Apple for the first time in 2013 with my boyfriend. It was love at first sight. I know, I know, it is cliché, but I can’t help myself. Long story short, we got back to Brazil and one month later he was hired by a startup based in NYC. We got married and moved to the Big Apple in January 2014.

  • I've been creating content on the internet since 2010. When I moved to NYC, I started to share tips about NYC on my blog and on my Youtube channel - all in Portuguese. I did that exclusively for more than 6 years. But as we are always evolving, I decided to dedicate more time to create content in English. As an expat, I feel like I'm getting out of my comfortable zone.

What to expect from The Tiny Apple?

For now, The Tiny Apple posts are around these topics (always open to new suggestions from you):

  • NYC Diaries - Once a month, I share my "NYC Diaries”. As the title suggests, it is like a diary where I share places I explored and experiences I had during the month. As someone who has been living in this city for over 10 years, discovering new things brings me so much joy - and sharing that is part of this process.

  • Local's Picks - Sometimes I feel biased talking about the Big Apple and I truly believe every person here has some unique perspective about this place. There are so many things to do and see, and this is not a "one man's job." I love to rely on tips, recs and advice from locals when I travel - and I also appreciate that in my own city. So, once a month - or so - I bring other people's perspectives about this amazing city.

  • SCREENSHOTS - Once a month, I will send you my best roundup of nerd recs - everything I've watched, listened to, read, and tried.

  • Tales of a transplanted - my thoughts and stories as an expat - and beyond that.

I want to be that friend that has the best advice and tips! If that sounds like your vibe, join me!
