SCREENSHOTS #11: Apple Cider Vinegar, Untamed and other recs
Movies, series, books and more: everything I've watched, listened to, read, and tried in February.
SERIES
Apple Cider Vinegar
One of the most anticipated TV series - at least for me - and I got obsessed with it! Apple Cider Vinegar is “a true-ish story based on a lie” - it follows the dramatic story of the rise and fall of Belle Gibson - and Australian influencer who fooled the world by lying about having cancer and building an empire around the wellness speech. I didn't know anything about Belle until the series launched, and I was shocked. It reminded me of Inventing Anna.
Available on Netflix.
Envious
I finished the first season and quickly discovered the second season had just launched. This Argentine comedy-drama follows Vicky (Griselda Siciliani), a woman in her 40s who is plagued by jealousy and self-doubt. Frustrated by watching her friends and ex-partners achieve what she longs for—love, marriage, and a perfect family—Vicky makes a series of rash decisions that complicate her romantic life.
Available on Netflix.
Podcast
How I Got “Legal” After 31 Years as an Undocumented American
I mentioned this episode on last week's newsletter - but I'm linking here too. On this podcast, Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, called “the most famous undocumented immigrant in America,”talks about how he finally had a chance of obtaining a visa after living undocumented for 31 years.
Book
Untamed
I had seen this cover dozens of times - and I've always been so curious about this book. Finally, a friend of mine told me it was such a great title to listen to - so I got the audiobook and couldn't be happier about it.
In this memoir, Glennon Doyle talks not only about how she left her marriage to heal and pursue a new relationship - with a woman - but also about her journey learning how to live by her wishes and desires - and not to follow what society expects from a woman. There are so many amazing, beautiful, and deep reflections about relationships, family, and being true to yourself. A lot of the things she mentions hit home.
